(1,928 posts)But Thomas is already known to want to retire. I would expect to see it this time next year if the GOP till hold the Senate, barring no one else goes first.

(279 posts)Trump will also not get to replace Thomas unless he wins in 2020, in which case I could see Thomas taking an earlier retirement.
If anything, Trump will get to replace Ginsburg and Breyer.

(7,299 posts)The pressure will now be on Thomas. Republicans want to replace him with a 50 something. Ginsburg should receive Secret Service protection IMO.

(1,928 posts)That handles security. US Marshals as well if needed. That said, none of the Justices seem to keep 24/7 security. Breyer has had his house robbed a couple times, Souter was mugged while jogging.

(10,184 posts)CK_John, I've followed your posts with bemusement for many years. They always provide an off the wall surrealism to any topic which never fails to amuse me. And they're usually optimistic, something we all need these days. Whatever you're on, can I have some to tide me over until November at least?
If Clarence were to die on the bench it would probably take several days or weeks for anyone to notice anyway.
