The man is old. There may be an illness we aren't privy to. He hired law clerks with the intention of staying on. Maybe he received bad news and decided he wanted to be with his family.

We don't know his thinking.

But we're determined to think the worst.

but otherwise a standard conservative... who doesn't mind Trump picking his replacement... just shows you how much overlap exists between "true" conservatism and Trumpism, though they deny it.
