These SOB's are big supporters of Scott Walker which is reason enough to boycott them, but they also are supporting Trump and his tariffs.
So while farmer's are struggling with declining prices and manufacturers close down & lay off workers, these un-American jerk-wads are laughing with their tax cuts to the bank. So this Fourth of July, avoid purchasing Johnsonville. (I would recommend Klement's if it is available in your area). At the very least, it helps Wisconsin Democrats by cutting into one of their Republican donors.
article excerpt-
Michael Stayer-Suprick, who leads the companys international business division, says hes concerned about trade wars.
However, for where we need to be as a country with our trading partners, to me this is a short-term hurdle thats well worth us trying to overcome, he said. I think this will be short-term pain for, hopefully,a long-term gain

(6,002 posts)Long story short, the guy's a douche!
Back in the 90's, I worked for a Fortune 500 company based in Madison, Wi.
At one of our management gatherings, Ralph Stayer was one of the invited speakers and I later chatted with him.
His big 'management/CEO revelation' was when he said to himself one day "I'm the CEO, I don't need to go into the production area and taste the sausage anymore."
There was sort of a sneering arrogance in his arrival at this thesis, which has led me to recount this experience whenever discussing how corporations turn into monsters.
To me , this is the very thing that's wrong with business in America. CEO's are disconnected from the product and people, and solely focused on marketing and the bottom line.
Also, for kicks, I went over to Wikipedia and found this gem-

Animal welfare controversy
In 2013, Johnsonville Foods came under public pressure to stop using gestation crates. A Change.org petition asked the company to stop purchasing pork products from suppliers that confine breeding pigs to cages that restrict their ability to turn around during pregnancy. The petition was supported by The Humane League and acquired over 73,000 signatures. Two months later, Johnsonville Foods stated it would be working with its suppliers to move from gestation stall housing to alternative pregnant sow housing by 2025.

Because their products are mass processed shit.
I found some local guys doing traditional charcuterie that sell products with no artificial ingredients. It cost a little more but I limit my sausage intake anyway.

(31,261 posts)Do you know any good Italian sausage brands in north central Florida (Gainesville-Ocala area) that are environmentally conscious and lean neutral or left? I have a choice of Perri, but they are from Wiscosin too and may be as bad as Johnsonville.
I tried Publix Italian sausage, the flavor is good, but it is a bit salty. Plus, Publix had it's own recent issue with supporting republican scum.

(11,949 posts)Also we just got a Luckys market that does as well.
But I have an independent guy in Orlando that does a nice job.
You might be surprised to find you have someone local as well.
Being from Louisiana I prefer Andouille and have a source for it as well.
Or invest in a meat grinder. Fresh sausage is easier than meatloaf.
Good luck.

(31,261 posts)What is The Fresh Market like in terms of social conscience? Their site say they support charities and local farmers.
As far as grinding my own, I am not that hardcore. I will buy from one of the markets above. I love mild Italian sausage but only eat maybe 8 per month, so should be easy for me to buy and freeze.

Hell, my local butcher might be a raving trumper for all I know. But he makes great products with local animals and minimal mystery ingredients.
