And please, please, stop to be ashamed !
Trump is not your fault, you are his first victims and the first to suffer his offenses.
These pics were taken a few years ago.
To strengthen ties between Belgium and USA, Brussels celebrated the American Independence Day.
Manneken Pis is the most emblematic statue of Brussels. On this occasion, it has been re-looked as Uncle Sam.

(51,675 posts)Can we trade places? Please? I love mussels and french fries. Do you like fish tacos (CA)?

(5,101 posts)I never eat tacos. I'd like to try
French fries...are not French, they are Belgian.
I don't eat fries very often (about 2 or 3 times in a year) because I like them prepared the very traditional way which is not the healthiest.
Potatoes are fried twice in beef fat. This is what give the unique taste I love. The first cook is at a low temp (160° Celsius) and meant to tenderize fries without coloring them nor make them crispy.
After the first fry, they are let cooled a bit before to plunge them again in a very hot fat (180° - 190° Celsius) for a minute or so. Not much more. It will give crispy and golden fries outside and melting inside. The variety of potatoes if important too. Here we use a variety called "bintje", it is a flourish variety of potatoes like russet potatoes.
I think it would be a great recipe for Trump : a perfect way to explode his cholesterol fat and sugar blood levels...

(63,221 posts)they were so delicious! We have a place here in Boston called "Saus" which makes Belgian fries w/ many different types of dipping sauces and they are just heavenly. I don't even really like American fries that much, but Belgian fries are the best!
syringis
(5,101 posts)You can make them at home. I don't know if you can find beef fat in USA.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)I rarely eat them and I am probably not ambitious enough to make them at home, but I think a few times a year won't kill me if I eat them out!
It's like most fattening dishes - I might eat them once or twice a year, but they are not a steady part of my diet.

(16,402 posts)It's heartening to know that we still have caring friends in Europe, even if the current maladministration is burning all our bridges.
We look forward to rebuilding those bridges, stronger and better than ever, with you and all our other allies. First, though, we have some "regime change" to work on.

(13,776 posts)Thank you for being such a sweetheart and thank you for being such a true friend.
One of my biggest frustrations these days is the worry that people around the world think that what they see on the news is who we are now, and that they wont take us back if we ever recover from all of this. I truly cannot thank you enough for your kind words.

My familiarity with the rascal statue, Mannequin Pis is from the copy at well known American haunt, Harry's Bar in Paris.
Glad to learn that it originates in Brussels, 17th c. I should have known that, and now I do.
And he's costumed at special times, according to this link. How cool!

Although I've visited Luxembourg, France and Germany, my sister loved Amsterdam, and my dad likely went through Belgium in WWII, I've haven't been to Belgium yet. On the next trip to Europe for sure!

God willing if were not in a war next year Ill make it back over there. I have to take a tour of a Belgium chocolate factory! It definitely beats our Ghiradelli chocolate.
You are very welcome !
I'll be your guide.

mountain grammy
(26,677 posts)It is a comfort, but one we don't deserve, and that make me sad. One of the few European cities I've visited was Amsterdam. Not Belgium, but close. I felt so welcomed, I always did, the few times I've left the country. Now, I'm ashamed. We can upset the whole world. What power America has, and in the wrong hands.....
We hoped to drive our camper into Canada this fall.Wish we could stay but spouse is adamant. By November, we could have a Supreme Court that could overturn any election. I hope Belgium still loves us then. We'll need it.

As far as I can remember, I despised him ! I've always seen him an as*hole !
