(15,394 posts)1. No
Apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor.
Just being nitpicky.

Your cousin is not your grandfather. Apes and humans had a common distant grandfather. So all these millions of years later we are distant cousins. The apes of today are NOT the apes of several million years ago, just as humans are not the hominids of millions of years ago.
I get incredibly irritated at this casual misunderstanding of evolution.

(2,328 posts)3. Also according to scientific taxonomy, humans are apes.
One of the species of Great Apes to be precise.
The family Hominidae (hominids), the great apes, includes three extant species of orangutans and their subspecies, two extant species of gorillas and their subspecies, two extant species of chimpanzees and their subspecies, and one extant species of humans in a single extant subspecies.[1][a][2][3]

There are a bunch of idiots in that twitter thread who are arguing against evolution. I just love it when someone states "It's just a theory and not hard, scientific fact", as if that means creationism is equally plausible. Wow! SMH!
