Vulnerable Republicans seek distance from Trump in new Congress

WASHINGTON — While President Donald Trump adjusts to life with a Democratic-led House, some Republican members of Congress are also wrestling with their own allegiances and political futures, finding ways to distance themselves from their party's president as a new era of divided government begins.

Cracks in the GOP ranks have already emerged as skittish Republicans, many of whom face difficult elections in 2020, have begun asserting their independence.

Their actions have ranged from siding with Democrats on efforts to reopen the government to writing a stinging op-ed about the president in just the first week of the new year.

And with a host of Republicans facing re-election in blue or purple states or districts in 2020, Democrats plan to take advantage of the political dynamics to upset the GOP's agenda.

One wonders if they'll face a teabagger primary challenge for their insolence.

a Speaker Pelosi led House hits these folks, and new campaign material happens in real time, there will be tons of these people looking at family issues and reelection ideas go away. As we saw in the last campaign,we Dems just plain out hustled the rethugs and had a heck of a message to go with it.

He has proven that he is an incompetent leader. He may even have caused John Roberts to moderate on the USSC, time will tell on that one. If Trump's radical changes backfire on him more, he is going to be dead weight around the necks of all republican office holders.

He is just flailing around and that will come to a end in a couple of weeks or sooner. Watch the Wall Street and Airlines tell him you are so done with us.

Trump might leave before his term is up,don't count on it. The GOP has to remove him. Pelosi and team are dealing with what is called a target rich environment.

He was mean to Dr Ronny.

Lost Flake's seat, too, in AZ.

They do not get the opportunity to "distance themselves" or anything of the kind. They got what they wanted and now they want people to give them another chance. No more chances for conservatives. If they changed parties, I'd advocate giving them a primary at the soonest possible opportunity. They are opportunistic clowns with NO discernible qualities in public office. Fuck em.

When they switch parties and/or VOTE with the Democrats on important issues and block Trump's insane appointments, that might mean something. Until then, I don't think modern science has the technology measure distances that small.
