Pay close attention to what this administration is doing...

1. Weekend talks with Democrats were futile. Dems there frustrated that Rs didn't have budget numbers ready and OMB had to rush to compile them. Mtgs. instead focused on admin's bleak presentation on border situation

2. POTUS, encouraged by friends on right, increasingly sees a nat'l emergency declaration as a way to rattle empowered Dems and show his core voters he's going to the brink for wall

3. Instead of trying to negotiate to reopen the gov't with a wall-less bill, the admin spent Monday continuing to make its case of a border crisis to reporters and need for $5.7B. VP and @SecNielsen briefed. Laying foundation ahead of POTUS's Tues. speech to nation.

4. My top Trump admin sources say they see little downside to going "all out" now on the wall. Rallies their voters, tests Dems' mettle, and gives POTUS a chance to be seen as fighting on his signature issue ahead of a likely rough year of probes and battles w/ House Dems

The host detailed the week's event - Mattis, McGurk, Syria, shutdown, etc - "For a President who thrives on chaos this week appears to be 'Peak Trump'".
That and "Vichy Republicans" (Frank Rich) are the two best phrases I've heard this week.

Then Mara Liasson was on. Granted some of this comes from the White House but she made two interesting points:
1. The administration doesn't think Trump will suffer any politic fallout from the shutdown.
and then this...
2. For his base the wall is is vital and they take it very literally. According to her sources in the White House/Trumpians they don't think he can get re-elected if he doesn't get the wall.

Let think sink in. They feel like they have to actually "go to the wall" on this.

That trump keeps raising the price he wants? It was 5.6 billion, now it's up to 5.7 billion, is that the art of the "deal" or is just to stupid to remember?

He does not want to come away from this as a "loser". But his is and always has been a loser. We can not let him blackmail us into caving in to his ridiculous demands because he will continue to pull this shit if we do. Make him own this and humiliate him into backing down. He is not as strong as he pretends to be.

If our leaders give in, look for him to hold federal workers hostage anytime his rightwing base demand that he get something, however silly. A line in the sand has to be drawn in the sand front of that pig and our leaders can't back up one inch from that line.

What about all the federal hostages? The ones that are not getting their rightful pay?

Are they on the “up side”?

Why didn't senate republicans act on this "crisis"? Republicans know there is no crisis, but they're too cowardly to stand up to putin's puppet.

If they thought that it was a crisis, they could made the bill a reconciliation bill and rolled over our leaders. But they didn't. Because it is not now, nor was it ever a crisis.

And if they do not believe there is a crisis, they need to speak out against the declaration of a national emergency.
