It is always infuriating when reporters give the president an open mic to ramble without fact-checking. But even more problematic than this, as Vox points out, is that in 2014, President Barack Obama addressed the nation during primetime to discuss his executive orders protecting young immigrants, and the networks all refused to air the address on the grounds that it would be too partisan:
Conservative pundits were, at the time, pushing the notion that Obama was essentially seizing power like a Latin American dictator, so essentially anything that refocused the conversation on banal policy details would have played to his advantage. TV networks, however, didnt give him what he wanted, in part because it was November sweeps time, but officially because he was playing partisan politics rather than addressing a true national emergency.
Moreover, Vox notes, the networks did give airtime to President George W. Bush in 2006 to discuss immigration and his position was essentially the same as Obamas. It is difficult to escape the conclusion that the networks are simply more willing to give Republicans the floor than Democrats, which is also backed up by the heavy imbalance towards conservatives in Sunday talk show lineups.

(19,569 posts)I was told on Twitter they feel they're in between a rock and a hard place (paraphrasing).
The claim is it'll be a short 7 minutes long diatribe. I expect he will run long and it'll be uglier than they expect.

I think you were the one who turned me onto The Obama Diary, right? (My memory is stress traumatized). What a balm that place was for my soul!
What I would give for a sense of sanity and normalicy now... but, that's not our current reality. Instead we're all spinning on the head of a pin constantly.

(7,142 posts)I have been preaching about the evils of the corporate controlled right wing M$M for a long time.
Think about it, Libertarians like the Kochs are just another branch of white supremacists. The Koch brothers and their ilk don't give a damn if Trump destroys our institutions and our democracy. They have already packed the courts with right wing bigots.
The narrative that we see and hear from the M$M is controlled by the far right. We have a few Democrats who have the ability to change the narrative; Speaker Pelosi, AOC, Franken was one.
We need to weather the storm tomorrow my friends, on Wednesday Speaker Pelosi starts voting on smaller Bills to restart the government. One of the first bills will be to reopen the IRS so that people get their refunds on time.
We need to get by tomorrow, the bullshit will be flying.
