Last month, the Senate approved a bill that would finally make lynching a federal crime, centuries after repeated and failed attempts.
As CNN reported on December 19, the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act passed unanimously. The bill was sponsored by the chambers three African-American senators: Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).
But some arent happy with the language inside the bill, namely the evangelical law firm Liberty Counsel, who argue that the bill provides special rights for LGBT people.
Speaking to the Christian news outlet OneNewsNow, Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver said lawmakers tried to sneak in the LGBT protections in a bill that also protects ethnic and religious groups.
The old saying is once that camel gets the nose in the tent, you cant stop them from coming the rest of the way in, Staver told OneNewsNow. And this would be the first time that you would have in federal law mentioning gender identity and sexual orientation as part of this anti-lynching bill.

(25,930 posts)Lynching should be a crime (according to some "Christians" except if those lynched are somehow offensive to you.
Which means that the original lynchings of African Americans should be just fine and dandy, since some people were offended by them.
I wish they'd point out where in the New Testament Jesus says it's okay to lynch anyone at all.

(19,569 posts)It would be sad, if they weren't so very dangerous. The Liberty Counsel is a truly evil hate group who'd be perfectly happy to see LGBT people reduced to non human status if they could.

Where would anyone start?
Thank you for this link to a source I never saw which looks very interesting.
