Trump obviously wrong that "I have the absolute right to do national emergency if I want."

Notice that he says "if I want."

He has a right to declare an national emergency if the citizens of this country need it; not if he wants to.

I'm curious why this wasn't a "national emergency" before the election. Vinca Jan 2019 #1

and think about how declaring a national emergency to seize private property worked out for Harry Truman. His lawyers have certainly read it - it's required reading in the constitutional law class in the first year of law school - but I doubt they could explain it to somebody as stubborn and dumb as Trump.

Thank you.

It will be brutal for Trump and the Republicans if they start seizing properties. Trump doesn't do strategic thinking so he never thought about that or the other million reasons that this whole phony crisis was a bad idea.

for military production during the Korean War, and arguably there actually was a national emergency in that respect. Trump would do it just because he wanted to do it so he can say he "won."

but I think it has to be a real emergency right? Not "I don't like the things brown illegals do, so it is an emergency when they do it, but not an emergency when citizens, white citizens do the same things, more often and at greater cost to society."

'"If Harry Truman couldn’t nationalize the steel industry during wartime, this president doesn’t have the power to declare an emergency and build a multibillion-dollar wall on the border,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) said on CNN over the weekend.'
