The people along most of the border know that crossings along the areas that are not covered by a barrier are rare, that the people crossing are trying not to disrupt so as not to be caught, and that crime along the border area is fairly rare.
You get more crime in the large metropolitan areas of the border, Brownsville/Matamoros, El Paso/Ciudad Juarez, San Diego/Tijuana, etc... that is where the drugs flow through and where the populations are larger, poor, and more desperate.
Trump continues to make himself look like the fool he is and I think more people are paying attention.

(7,411 posts)Government procurement (funding, design, contractor selection, etc.) is an ordinarily cumbersome project, as pointed out above. However, declaring a project as an emergency generally lifts many of the usual requirements in order to speed up the project. That would include contractor selection. The potential for money changing hands in that scenario is greatly increased.
