Jon Tester for President

He's a powerful speaker. I first learned about him when I saw his recent address to the Senate. He demanded a vote to reopen the goverment:

Democratic Sen. Jon Tester On How He Keeps Winning Elections In Republican Country

Montana Sen. Jon Tester won his third term in the Senate. He was one of the few Democrats in a red state to survive a reelection bid this cycle and speaks with NPR's Ari Shapiro about how he did it....

Of all the Senate races in the 2018 midterms, Montana was one of the most personal to President Trump. The incumbent Democrat there, Jon Tester, helped bring down President Trump's choice for VA secretary, Ronny Jackson. In the five months leading up to Election Day, President Trump visited Montana four times to campaign against Tester....

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I mean, he's a super liberal. How do you - I know you people. I won by a fortune of votes, right? Like, many, many, many votes. And I know you. You know me. I know you. How the hell did you ever elect that guy?

SHAPIRO: Well, on election night, Tester convincingly won a third term. So to talk about how Democrats can find a path in red states, Senator Tester joins us now. Welcome back to the program....

He JUST got reelected, and not by much. I'm always STUNNED people just want to throw away all the hard work that it took to win that election.

Even if Tester were to win the nomination we probably don't carry Montana even with him on the ticket and even if we did it is very few electoral college votes. While Ohio is critical to republicans and it will legitimately be in play not to mention Brown's message will sell well in Pa.,Mi and Wisconsin.

I like Jon Tester and am grateful that he is in the Senate for Montana. I do NOT want a red state Democrat for president. Can we please stop trying to appeal to conservatives with a guy who is "not so bad" by their standards? Or to independents with someone who is "not as crazy as those other guys"? Please?

The U.S. of A. is a CENTER LEFT country, according to all polls that ask about policies and not labels. I don't think it is too much to ask for the liberal party to ACT LIKE IT with our presidential nominee.

Sorry for shouting.

I have issues with red state Democrats in general, not Montana Democrats. Why? Because I feel they have to compromise to get elected at all and I don't want the president/leader of our party starting with a compromise position and giving ground from there. I'd like us to run on a full-throated, unapologetic progressive platform. You may disagree but I think it is a winner, in red and blue states (of course we won't get the troglodytes but we wouldn't in any case). And if you want to know my primary objection to Tester, it's this, from an article just last summer:

“Coal is an important part of our energy portfolio," he says. "We just need to figure out how we can burn it without burning the planet up.”

http://www.mtpr.org/post/montana-reps-respond-epa-ease-restrictions-coal-power-emissions

You might call me a single issue voter. If I am, this is it. The livability of the planet and the survival of all its ecosystems is my issue. imo it is the only issue; at this point the rest is rearranging deck chairs while the boat sinks. And someone willing to buy into the "clean coal" idea at any level this late in the game is a non-starter with me. A Green New Deal is needed, a moon shot is needed and we can't wait for "bridge" energy measures, be they natural gas or "clean" coal or whatever. Call 'em what they are: half-steps to avoid pissing off the fossil fuel companies. That's why I say no to Tester. We desperately need a leader on this and he isn't it.

I support Senator Brown. Have since early 17 assuming he could win re-election which he did. I do not support his trade policy. But think he is the one candidate we have who would wrap up the Midwest which would insure a win.

A democrat I disagree with on some issues as president is better than one I agree with all the Time as a loser.

so I'm going to ignore it. And Sherrod Brown is the exception to my objection to red state Ds. I would rather see him as the nominee than most of the expected or declared candidates so far. In fact, I think Hillary would not have lost those 3 critical mid-west states if he had been on the ticket in 2016.

And he doesn't want to run either. He doesn't have the chops to be president and he isn't interested either, and I'm glad of it. I just helped re-elect him and I am comfortable with him staying right where he's at. I don't get why every time someone shows a little life in their political work that someone suddenly thinks that they should run for president.
