*How long* can Trump/McConnell keep the shutdown going?

It seems like, politically, he and the Republicans in Congress are taking a beating on this issue and it's only going to get worse for them. The shutdown now has gone on longer than any previous ones. And it's over something that Trump wants that the public doesn't. What will be their tipping point? *What* will get McConnell/GOP to force a vote and potential override vote to (fully) re-open our government? Trump says that this may last "months or years" but there's no way *that* can happen...........is there?

We don't really know. They seem to make up rules as they go along to avoid the more catastrophic consequences. Probably the most reasonable conclusion is that it will be over when "Wall Street" wants it to be over. Alternately, a natural disaster or terrorist incident could force congress to act.

Trump is loyal to Trump. That is all. He does not care about the 1%. He does not care about the market. He cares about Trump & making money & keeping his ass out of jail, in that order. If his base stays solidly behind him, & a good number of them will because they will blame the democrats for the shutdown, Trump will take the whole thing down. He doesn't give one shit about anyone but himself.

stage a walk out. Damn thing will end.

Two people--two fu*king people--Trump and McConnell--have shut down this government. That is not even close to democracy. Forget the Republic.

If this were France, those two fu*kers would be gone and the government would be open for normal looting by Republicans.

Voila!

I totally agree that airport closures will do the trick because their funders will revolt and that's all the repug party is about - big $$$. Drumpf and McTurtle want this to continue because PUtin told them to do this and because it allows Russia to hack into voter databases more easily with FEC shuttered and because it stops prosecution of drumpfs criminal enterprises and family, outside of Mueller.

So, to answer the question, this shutdown is going to continue until important airports close and that could take months.

I didn't think McConnell could hold up the Merrick Garland nomination for as long as he did, and I was dead wrong about that. Considering the interconnectedness between McConnell and the White House (McConnell's wife is the Secretary of Transportation, and is almost surely using that position to advance her family's fortunes), McConnell has no incentive to make the government work while he and his wife are busy looting the Treasury.

has the same political downside as a government shutdown that hurts his own voters. Because of that I believe (and desperately hope) that this monstrous abuse of government employees and U.S. taxpayers will end within a week or two, if not sooner.

But other than low-paying service jobs, who's going to hire someone who could leave the moment that Trump/McConnell declare victory and end the shutdown?

Those workers with the skills to get good paying permanent jobs are not coming back, and our government will be weaker because of it.

Just as Putin wanted.

Mission accomplished.

If it last more than a month

TSA and air traffic controllers will no longer show up for work creating havoc to travel.
Secret service will no longer show up for work and Trump will no longer be able to travel.
No tax refunds will be returned and no one will check if taxes are collected.
Guards at federal prison will report to work.
Stock markets will fall with lack of productive and income.
Water and electricity will eventually be turn off even for Washington.
The list goes on.
