in fact, they'd be happy if it was permanent. After all, that is their stated goal, to destroy the government.
When you tell them stories of how many people are suffering they don't fucking care. They blame the victims anyway, as people who 'can't get real jobs' and have to live off of the government. They figure the people who are suffering deserve it, unless of course it is them. Even then, they don't blame their heroes, they blame Liberals and Democrats and Communists and various political boogeymen they have been trained to hate.
That's your basic 30-35% core of the Repub party, which through McConnell and Trump now has a strangle hold on our government.

They have no clue as to the important things government does to make all of our lives safer.
They would happily destroy all of it.

(22,214 posts)government is going to be impacted and they will be too. This is NOT the way to streamline government and I want these idiots on record stating such, for I view them as traitors to responsible government, not irrational government. This is why the federal government exists, to act as a united front instead of 50 different states and/or multiple territories.
Irresponsible and every single republican supporting this shutdown should automatically be thrown out of office, since they don't seem to want to do their job. If not, find someone else that will. NOW. Don't wait until the damage is too severe.

(22,919 posts)When government is slowly chipped away at those who are hurt by any single cut are more easily ignored and written off, because the rest of that 35% number you speak of mostly aren't feeling it themselves at that moment. But if they allow this shutdown to go on for an additional week or more, the number of people feeling the pain simultaneously will skyrocket, as they collectively come to understand that they too need government services.
I think the true percent who would knowingly dismantle government knowing full well what that would do is closer to 10%. Republicans are entering a real danger zone now.
