He's going to a specialized hospital called Shouldice. They bill themselves as the "only licensed hospital in the world dedicated to repairing hernias." Apparently, almost all their surgeries use natural tissue and not mesh.

waiting time, who really cares about patients and doesn't price-gouge, who recently performed a very complicated hernia surgery on a person close to me.

But fuck Rand Paul - let him go to Canada!

Rand Paul is apparently going to Canada to avoid an operation using surgical mesh, frequently used in the US. Depending on the severity of the hernia, the mesh is used to strengthen the closure. But there have been problems in some patients, most frequently with pelvic prolapse. But some hernia patients as well.

I've had the surgery. Painful, yes. But basically routine. I had the mesh implant used in the repair on the advice of my surgeon. Without any issues.

The remarkable thing is how Paul and his Republican colleagues bray about the US having the most superior healthcare system in the world. Then Paul needs hernia surgery. He runs to Canada.

If the mesh usage is truly the reason then my question for Senator Paul would be: where do you stand on medical device regulation? I suspect the answer would be: everyone has the freedom to go to Canada. Only that's not true because of the cost, as another poster pointed out.

I've also suggested that perhaps the Canadian surgeons will remove Senator Paul's hypocrite stones.
