Impeachment is the process of bringing charges against a president in the House. Once those Articles have been brought the House votes on them. If they are carried the president has been impeached. Period. That's the end of the impeachment part of the process. The charges levied are then sent to the Senate for the president to stand trial. A vote of 67 yea votes are required to convict the president of any article levied against him/her. If he is convicted of any charge he is removed from office.

The Senate leader cannot refuse to hold the trial. The trial is presided over by the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS.

No Senator can initiate the impeachment process. That's the job of the House.
