Cohen's a lawyer. How blankety-blank dumb is that?

Cohen was loyal to Trump, was likely already in deep with unethical behavior, and figured he might have an out through Trump. His being a lawyer does give him more knowledge of the intricacies of the law, but it doesn't inoculate you to unethical or just plain stupid behavior.

others who lied to Congress--like Erik Prince, for example.

His role was never to offer legal advice, but to facilitate the commission of crimes.
