Is it possible for Pelosi to do a real press conference?

One where she explains her work and then the press can ask her questions? It could be a press conference with all the Committee Chairs standing with her to answer questions which are pertinent to their investigations.

It may or may not be precedented, but the times are certainly not normal right now. If Trump can make up the rules as he goes, then why not The House?

Drastic times...

She has done press conferences.

The problem is whether or not the press will actually cover her press conferences. So far they mostly seem uninterested.

I could announce one for this afternoon. Of course, no one from the press would bother to show up, but I am certain they would show up if the Speaker announced that she was holding one.

beside her. I’m thinking more of a formal Q & A session that lasts an hour as opposed to her pausing to answer questions while waiting for the elevator.

Although doing it in the visiting center may possibly be watering it down because without the transcript her office provides all we get is a sound bite or two.

I’m hoping, perhaps foolishly, for something we could watch in its entirety.

But Trump has already set totally new and outrageous precedents on how to communicate. We’ve grown accustomed to his insane tweets, yet they’re now commonplace. Would Pelosi and the Democrats get the attention if they tweeted their “thoughts” and agenda on a daily basis instead of just reacting to Trump’s?

Social media is here to stay. Use it. Learn its importance, its power, and use it. Hire young people who get it and feel perfectly comfortable using it. Who know the value of getting a thought out there in 140 characters.

You get what I mean.

I'd like to see Speaker Pelosi's news conferences receive blanket coverage on tv.

Maybe there will be more coverage when committees actually start questioning witnesses.

This is a national crisis, caused by Trump. Surely, the MSM could give her a few minutes to speak to the nation. She's second in line to the White House.

make an opening statement and answer a bunch of questions. Real air time which can later be seen on YouTube in it’s entirety. Video DUers can post here.

question #2: why can't you and the president sit down together and compromise to end the shutdown?
question #3: why won't you accept the president's proposal to end the shutdown?
question #4: why aren't you working with the president to end the shutdown? (rinse and repeat)

yeah, i guess that's about as "real" as a press conference gets these days.

That’s the point of my question. If the Democratic leadership get air time to broadcast the press conference then it’ll be on YouTube, or someone here on DU, perhaps you, could post it here. It would be available for posterity forever. When answering a jackass asking those very questions you could give them a link to the video, or even give them some of the answers to those questions in a medium even they could understand.

the media will frame the entire thing to fit the required "both sides" narrative. as manor321 noted, she already gave a completely satisfactory answer to these questions, but they will continue to be asked ad nauseum because the public must be presented with a "both sides" story to preserve Republican dominance.

“We cannot have the president, every time he has an objection say ‘I’ll shut down the government until you come to my way of thinking.'" -- this is, or ought to be, an adequate response. it is brief, it is clear, but it won't fit with a "both sides" narrative, so it will be largely ignored. if the press honestly reported the shutdown as the hostage situation it is, Republicans would have a serious problem on their hands, so such notions must be summarily spiked before they become major topics of discussion.

https://www.speaker.gov/

And Pelosi's Youtube Channel (which I expect will be populated with any press events and other appearances) - https://www.youtube.com/user/NancyPelosi/videos

CSPAN usually broadcasts the Speaker's remarks if/when they are given and archives them (there is a search box to look for previous recordings) - https://www.c-span.org/congress/

They have always had "press" events - usually with the rest of leadership there and/or committee chairs related to the topics at hand and/or other members who might be sponsoring legislation, etc.

I encourage folks to seek these sources out because the M$M isn't going to provide this. To them, if it don't "bleed" it don't "lead".
