I am always amazed that there are so many people who are not aware of what is going on around them.
I think back to the '92 debates. The debates that included Ross Perot. To me, they were must see TV. It seemed like everyone was anticipating these debates. I didn't want to watch alone at home, so I figured I would watch them in a bar.
I went downtown and walked into this unfamiliar bar because I could see through the window that they had their TV on. I sat at the bar and asked the bartender if he would put the debate on. The approximately 10 people at the bar turned to me and in unison said "who's debating"?

(146,351 posts)They don't watch television news programs and don't get a daily paper. They aren't even getting the brief news coverage on their radios, since people have switched to Sirius or are listening to music from their devices.
I don't know the percentages, but they are quite high, I'm sure. For many, during campaign season, the only thing they see are ads on their television, but even that is changing, as people switch to streaming over WiFi systems.
I think that each year, fewer and fewer people are aware of the news. That's not a good thing. Not at all.

(772 posts)I probably see a hundred people a day try to go through their doors. This is been going on for weeks, so yeah, it's amazing how many people are oblivious to what's going on around them right now.
I have a feeling it won't be long until they do see it though.

(4,552 posts)My daughter had a conversation with her Lyft driver a few days ago about the shutdown. The driver brought it up and was ranting about how much she was against the shutdown. It became clear shortly that she had no idea what had happened or why. When my daughter questioned her, she said that a bunch of federal government workers just decided not to go to work, but wanted to get paid anyway, and the shutdown happened because the government refused to pay them unless they came to work! WTF?!? Needless to say, my daughter set her straight, but it just illustrates the ignorance that's out there. And this is in a large city in Northern California in a district represented by Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris. Go figure...
