Kavanaugh Supporter, Joni Ernst: Says she was raped in college, embarrassed to come forward.

I don't even know how to comment on this, other than let her words speak for themselves.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said Wednesday that she was raped when she was in college, a revelation she chose to make after intimate deals of her divorce were made public this week.

The lawmaker, one of the highest-ranking women in Congress, told Bloomberg News that she was sexually assaulted by someone she was dating while studying at Iowa State University. She said that the man was physically and verbally abusive during their relationship and that she broke up with him after speaking to someone at a campus counseling center. She said she didn’t report the rape to police.

“I didn’t want to share it with anybody, and in the era of hashtag-MeToo survivors, I always believed that every person is different and they will confront their demons when they’re ready,” the senator told Bloomberg News on Wednesday, before adding, “And I was not ready.”
.
.
Ernst has been a high-profile supporter of President Donald Trump throughout his first term. She also voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last year amid outrage over allegations that he had sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford when they were teenagers.
.
.
“I was embarrassed,” Ernst said of her response at the time of the assault. “I didn’t know how to explain it. I was so humiliated. And I’m a private person, when it comes to those things.”

Having been a victim myself I find myself feeling sympathy for her for the first time. Though that probably won’t last.

how or when life will make you face it.

There are a lot of women out there who think they’ve handled it who maybe one day will find their inner life in shambles and forced to deal with it. Rape’s aftermath is a lifelong condition.

She has no idea yet how she may have hurt other women.

She has no idea that she never resolved the issue. It’s quite typical in rape victims. She thought just putting it in the past took care of it. But life and your subconscious has a way of slapping you hard to make you deal with it.

Sexual abuse and rape are way more complicated than often understood, and suppression/ repression/ putting it all behind you are coping mechanisms that eventually decay and fail. Sometimes it takes decades, and even then it's not just out and done.

I don't have to like her politics or even like her as a woman to feel empathy for the road she's on.

Strange how these stories BOTH came out RIGHT NOW... Without acknowledged external precipitating factors... Almost like she is trying to manipulate the narrative around herself... gee, I wonder why that might be...

Ernst has been subject to heavy media scrutiny this week over her divorce from her husband, Gail Ernst. In documents made public due to state law, the senator said she was subjected to emotional and physical abuse during her 25-year marriage.

“Gail has been very cruel. This has been an extremely painful journey,” Ernst wrote in an affidavit first reported by the Iowa newspaper Cityview and the Des Moines Register on Tuesday. The documents have since been sealed at the request of the Ernsts.

Their divorce was first announced in August and became finalized on Jan. 3.

Regarding Dr. Ford’s claims, Sen. Ernst said: “Corroboration wasn’t there.”

Something is very wrong with Sen. Ernst.

Ernst acts like a gay GOP who continues to vote against gay rights, except this is on women's issues. A huge fracture in her psyche.

You mean to tell me you were raped? And after you were raped you had the opportunity to vote down a near documented rapist, but you went ahead and confirmed such a person?

There's a special place in hell for the likes of you, sister.
