On this date, and less than a week after in inauguration of Drinky McStupid, then Federal Reserve chairman, Alan Greenspan, declared the Clinton budget surpluses a threat - a threat I tells 'ya! - to the economic well being of the nation, declaring those surpluses "disastrous" and therefore - TAX CUTS!!!
And with the Maestro's OK, completely ignoring the deficits they bitched about whenever Democrats held power, Republicans pushed ahead with the Bush tax cuts.
And we've been in the shitter ever since.
