After Snubbing Trump Once Already, The Warriors Quietly Visit Obama On Trip To D.C.

The Golden State Warriors had a short visit with former President Barack Obama on Thursday while they were in Washington to play against the Wizards, according to ESPN. The visit took place in Obama’s D.C. office, and appeared to function as a kind of replacement for what would normally be the team’s White House celebration of last year’s championship win.
Team forward Draymond Green posted a photo from the meeting on his Instagram page after it happened (note how tiny 6-foot-1 Obama appears in this sea of NBA players).
The Warriors have visited Obama once before, in 2016, to celebrate their 2015 championship win. After they won in 2017, though, the Wizards skipped out on their 2018 celebratory White House visit. Stephen Curry publicly said that he would refuse to visit President Trump even if the team got invited, and Trump rescinded the invitation. The team spent their D.C. trip at the National Museum of African American History and Culture with a group of young kids from Kevin Durant’s hometown of Seat Pleasant, Maryland. It was pretty obvious the team wouldn’t be visiting the president this year, either.
A Golden State official told ESPN that Curry arranged this latest meeting with Obama—the two have become golfing buddies. Curry reportedly demurred when reporters asked him who set up the meeting. “I have no idea,” he told the outlet.
