(21,703 posts)I assume 35% of the country represents his "base" since his approval is ALWAYS around that number.
Since only 20% support the "shutdown for wall" it stands to reason to me that he lost that 15% of the country from his base (since everyone else already opposed it anyway).
So this is losing a "percent of a percent" which is kind of confusing but just think of it as whole numbers. 35 people in the country support drumpf, but only 20 of those people support the shutdown. So he lost 15 of the 35, which is 15/35= .428 which is "about 40%".

They want government. It is aspects of the Dem, etc. party that they strongly do not want, that accounts for the intransigence fof 35% plus.
