(10,721 posts)Replacing a president is a major process.
The average age of the last 5 Democratic presidents was 48 upon taking office. Biden would be 78! He would shatter the record for oldest president in US history.
Not to mention his history with the Hill-Thomas hearing, which will come up in this Me Too era. And his penchant for gaffes. There's a reason Biden has failed multiple times to come even close to capturing the nomination.
UniteFightBack
(8,231 posts)Enough with the Hill Thomas hearings...seriously.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)Pointing out Trump's age and dismissing Biden's history regarding the Hill-Thomas hearing is not exactly a winning argument.

(10,721 posts)You seem to be under the impression that pointing out Trump's age somehow boosts the argument for Biden. You'll have to explain that one, because I don't get it.

(8,231 posts)goodness sake and I'm half his age-ish.

(15,528 posts)His age has nothing to do with his scumbaggary.

(15,528 posts)We need an old President. Republicans shouldn't be the only ones electing older people. I'm all for Biden or Hillary in 2020.

(92,525 posts)trump in 2016, and have expressed some remorse by your statements that you didn't run.
Yes, I know you lost someone, but you have been "thinking" about this for two years. You should know by now. In fact you should have a better idea of it than most of the other potential candidates.

(149,821 posts)That is a major loss. I suspect you may not completely realize just how major.
He needs time and introspection.
We need to respect that.

(92,525 posts)and others, bringing the subject up himself, and not only expressing remosre about not running in 2016, but saying he was more qualified than anyone else to beat Trump in 2020.
I am not being unsympathetic to his loss, but HE has been bringing this up about running for the last two years. He is also been going to political rallies, and making speeches, and alluding to this.
It is understandable about his decision not to run in 2016, because of the tragedy in his life, but two years later, actually more, because Joe has run previously, he has been thinking about this for decades.
This has nothing do to with his son, except that his son expressed a desire for him to run for President.
If he hadn't been publicly exploiting the run himself for the last two years, I wouldn't have even brought this up
You speculate I may not realize what the loss of a child has, or the impact on one's life. I realize it.
You are also speculating that his apparant hesitation in deciding to run or not is based on the death of his son. That may or may not be the reason at this time.
In my speculation he knows what he is going to do, but if he is truely is having this much problem deciding for whatever reason what to do, then perhaps he shouldn't be running, because making decisions is critical for a President

(5,505 posts)Just a gut hunch. He knows what it takes to get through a presidential campaign and this one is looking like it's going to start earlier than those before. I think he'll say that he is confident in those getting into the race, that he would run if he wasn't. But he would prefer to do what he can as private citizen Biden to help the next Democratic nominee get elected.

(20,794 posts)I love Joe, but I don't think he's got the teeth for this race, nor do I want to see the gop smear him in their feces.

(171 posts)Unless you think 44 out 45 of presidents being white men is good thing and promoting diversity is bad because it hurts the feelings of racist whites...
Bottom line is Biden and Bernie are too damn old, divisive and saddled with decades of baggage. They should just be elder statesmen with the little time they have left and pass the baton to the younger more dynamic candidates in the race. However, I dont expect either to do that as they both have big egos and little self awareness..

(31,893 posts)Let's count them, okay?
I get one: Barack Obama, African American.
How many genders beside male?
I get none.
As for age - are Biden and Sanders NOT "old"? Calling them old is not an insult, it's simply an observation of fact.
I'm old, I'm almost 70. In fact, I'm an old white lady.

(31,893 posts)Whites make up the dominant culture, they hold all the power. That's why your argument is silly.
I hope you're not going to trot out the absurd "reverse racism" trope to support your argument.

Personally I'm voting for the best candidate who can WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION...no matter what the fuck color, age, height, weight, fashion or other bullshit is in their past. Hows about that?
