Homeless kids in our school district.

Last edited Tue Jan 29, 2019, 01:00 AM - Edit history (1)

Florida has 67 counties. My county is the 3rd richest (not that the wealth has rubbed off on me). I went to an Indivisible meeting this evening and sat next to a stranger. I introduced myself to her and we chatted briefly before the program started. Turns out she works for the local school district and one of her main duties is writing grant applications to help fund services for homeless kids. I asked her about how many homeless kids she thought there are in our school system. She said..."no about, it's exactly 458 kids." I was shocked. We have about 19,000 school-age kids in the county, so we're talking about 2.4% of all local children. I expect it's worse most other places.
