For those who can't see tweets, there is an embed of Starbuck's announcement for the "Blonde Espresso" and titled: Congratulations, blonde espresso. Youre no longer the dumbest idea to come out of a Starbucks.

(1,588 posts)Every Democrat, go to a Starbucks counter or drivethru, say, "I heard Howard Schultz" is running for President to the barista, when they acknowledge you, say, never mind, turn around, and walk away.

(100,143 posts)If you are boycotting Starbucks because of the whole presidential thing, but then you go give your money to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, or Dunkin then you're probably giving money to someone who could be equally horrible.
Thanks

(45,637 posts)blonde espresso is nasty. Starbucks likes to go for the extremes, too dark or too blonde but never in the middle.

(82,849 posts)I guess "dumb blonde" jokes are still okay.

(102,525 posts)agree that a "light" espresso is the subject of ridicule. Aficionados would say "blasphemy"--and that "blonde" only comes into the equation because of Starbuck's ridiculous marketing campaign.
I'm blonde btw... but I take no offense here.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)No reason to take offense that "blonde" and "dumbest" are in there to make the joke work. It coulda been any Starbucks product, I'm sure.
hlthe2b
(102,525 posts)the blatant exception with my two post-doctoral degrees. No one has ever accused me of being a dumb blonde, but when I look at some out there, I understand where the "joke" derives.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Like I said, just a happy coincidence that the "joke" depended on everyone enjoying the ridicule of blondes because one self-identified anonymous blonde said it was okay. Is that rule we're going with in the future?

(82,849 posts)I've explained it to my blonde nieces and granddaughters that it's all right when people make fun of them for being blonde, and for heaven's sake shouldn't be offended by a little humor. It's funny when people call them dumb!
hlthe2b
(102,525 posts)and self-respect and confidence is not incongruous with that.... Certainly what I'd want my kids/grandkids to learn.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)The one with abandonment issues and the other one who was molested were doubtful, but after I explained to them your point that their class mates calling them dumb for being blonde shouldn't be taken as a grievance, they burst into what I'm pretty sure were tears of joy. It was heart-warming to know that this wasn't just one more difficulty in an already difficult life.
hlthe2b
(102,525 posts)but fine... Perhaps next time you will use that "trash thread" option and have a much better day. I hope you will.

(82,849 posts)I just pointed out that not all of the butts of the joke you re-posted are in quite such a privileged and secure position. Gosh, I'm sure once all those insulted will be totally self confident as anyone should be in 10 years or 20 years. In the meantime, while dealing with the usual bullies and buffets from growing up, they should expect to take hits from people they might have thought were on their side. It'll teach them a valuable lesson about trust. So thanks for that. And you have a terrific day, too. I think you filled out the "it was just a joke" bingo card quite adequately.

(102,525 posts)I truly am worried that you are so intensely triggered. It was surely not my intent.

(82,849 posts)You hit the The joke is at my personal expense and Im not offended space; the for heavens sakes space; the privilege space (not just one, but two post-doctoral degrees, impressive!); the condescension space (thank you for permitting others to have differing opinions); the toughen up space; the let it go space; the how dare you space; and the ersatz concern (aka the Ill pray for you) space. If you were truly concerned, I'd think you would trash your own thread.

(33,643 posts)'Blondes' don't exist in an underprivileged status, at least not in this Country. Playing it like they do is kinda odd, frankly.
FWIW, the whole 'dumb blonde' thing didn't even occur to me when reading the original joke ... I assumed it referred to the fact that Espresso is SUPPOSED to be dark in color, being made from a dark-roasted bean.

(4,463 posts)... it as a blonde joke either. It was the name Starbucks gave the product. It was a dumb product. Maybe Im just not looking hard enough
