Biggest donor for Mitch McConnell: Russian oligarch that the GOP just lifted sanctions on.

https://medium.com/@TheDemCoalition/mitch-mcconnells-ties-to-russian-oil-money-db56f16a4824

The Democratic Coalition’s ongoing investigation just uncovered the following evidence linking GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to Russian oil money, some of which we first revealed in February 2017.

McConnell recently voted to drop sanctions against Russian aluminum company RusAl which is still owned by one of Vladimir Putin’s sanctioned oligarchs, Oleg Deripaska. His action directly benefits one of the GOP leader’s major donors, whose fortune comes from Russian oil.

The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC run by Sen. McConnell’s former Chief of Staff, received a total of $3,500,000 ($2,500,000 in 2016 and $1,000,000 in 2017) via Access Industries and a subsidiary. Len Blavatnik is a Russian oligarch with US and UK citizenship who owns Access Industries and donated to Sen. McConnell’s 2016 Senate campaign vehicles.

Blavatnik’s Access Industries made many of its billions from Putin’s decisions about its Russian oil partnership. He is also a long-term business partner of Kremlin-linked Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska at RuSal, in which he is a major investor, as well as Viktor Vekselberg, who is entangled with Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen through his U.S. family office Columbus Nova.

Last week, Sen. McConnell led 42 Republicans in voting against a resolution to maintain sanctions on Blavatnik’s business partner Deripaska.

The Trump Administration formally dropped sanctions on the night of January 27th, 2019, which were imposed against Deripaska, Blavatnik’s long time business partner, for his high-level role in Russia’s election attack against the United States in 2016. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is also a longtime business partner of Blavatnik.

Jan 2019

Per New York Times:https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/29/us/politics/steven-mnuchin-russia-sanctions.html

"He did not donate to Mr. Trump’s campaign or the “super PACs” that supported it, but family members gave $243,000 to the Republican National Committee during the campaign. And two of Mr. Blavatnik’s companies, including his main United States-based company, Access Industries, donated $2.5 million to the super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates in 2016, plus another $1 million in 2017, according to Federal Election Commission records.

After Election Day, Access Industries donated $1 million to Mr. Trump’s inaugural committee, and Mr. Blavatnik attended inaugural events.

The questions from Democrats about a possible conflict of interest stem from an acquisition, announced in April 2017, by an arm of Access Industries, of a stake in a movie production company called RatPac Entertainment. The deal gave Access “a piece of” a joint film deal venture that RatPac had formed in 2013 with one of Mr. Mnuchin’s companies, Dune Entertainment, to finance Warner Bros. films, according to an article by the Hollywood Reporter posted on Access’s website."

Now a days if 1/2 your time in Washington is sitting on the phone trying to get money for re election, getting a bucket load of money from "other sources" is a real help. Fuck it if it's Russian money..right? These guys who take russian money and turn their backs on this country should be put up against the wall....

I honestly don't know how these republican "criminals" get prosecuted as long as trump is in the WH.

38. Very Good Question!!!
Wed Jan 30, 2019, 01:26 AM
Jan 2019

…I remember back in 2015 as the things were beginning to heat up within the Democratic Party & one basically had to make a choice “Clinton or Sanders”! Despite the fact neither one was being honest with the American people ESPECIALLY the Democratic base!! People do like to be lied to.

However, there was this Harvard Law Professor named Lawrence Lessig who at first was trying to work with the Sanders campaign to get them to center their entire campaign around campaign finance reform, expand voting access, reform (re)districting laws/guidelines, etc. IF ELECTED, nothing gets done until these reforms are implemented!

...It became obvious Bernie Sanders wasn’t at all interested in making such reforms be the core to his campaign should he end up getting elected he would have a MEGA-MANDATE from the voters to kick Congress in the ASS! Understanding the Sanders Campaign would rather continue to sale high grade BS to folks for votes Bernie knows NEVER have a chance of ever becoming a reality...Lawrence Lessig tried to start his own campaign. Unlike Bernie, who simply lost to Hillary he was not cheated, Lawrence Lessig was SCREWED HARD! They changed the rules on the fly to prevent Lawrence Lessig from participating in the debates with Hillary & Bernie!! Sucked.

We’re about to do it all over again, watch!!! …There will NEVER EVER BE REAL CHANGE in America until these multi billion dollar elections are gone, voting is easy & lobbyist don’t have the power to force my Congressional Representatives to ignore me!

From Lawrence Lessig Campaign in 2015:
“Citizen Equality Act”
The act was the centerpiece of Lessig's campaign platform, encompassing his plans for campaign finance reform, expansion of voting access, and revised districting laws. Lessig had stated that if elected, he would make these reforms the first priority of his presidency.

Wed Jan 30, 2019, 12:17 AM

Mnuchin insists it was only ONE such party ... Remember the last time we heard about this?

Rachel Maddow did quite a piece on it, over a couple of days, following this pretty young model who said she had tapes of meetings between I believe Deripaska or Len Blavatnik - ON a yacht, with what she thought were Americans because they spoke fluent English.

She was taken into custody at an airport by a bunch of Russian security guys, physically pushed onto a wheelchair and bound, and taken away. Then the next time we saw her she was apologizing to Deripaska for saying anything bad about him and swore she would never say a word again.

Do you suppose Mnuchin was on that yacht meeting with those skeevy dudes when that young woman was present?

Was it THAT yacht? And THAT bunch of dirty guys?

Deripaska's pal, Blavatnik being the guy who's invested A TON of bucks on Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, Scott Walker, AND the most money by far - on Mitch McConnell?
