Foxconn has gotten billions of tax-dollars from local Republicans to open an electronics-factory in Wisconsin.
They will create 13,000 jobs!
Well... in the long run. They will create 5000 jobs!
Well... in the long run. Foxconn has just announced that they have altered the plan to create 1000 R&D-jobs. Because american blue-collar-jobs are too expensive.

Sounds like a great deal. Billions of dollars of corporate incentives in exchange for 1000 jobs!

A pity that the MAGA Magoos are too self-blinded to see the obvious.

(1,178 posts)I get so tired of seeing these con games (no pun intended). They approach governments and promise this and that to get their tax incentives and so on, telling everyone what they want to hear, when they know full-well they're not going to follow-through on the promises. Case in point, there was a company in my area about a decade ago that wanted to build a plant, went to the county board and promised "100s of jobs and economic impact from those people spending money" in exchange for zoning changes and tax credits.
The county board approved it all. When the plant was about done being built, I inquired about getting one of those 100s of jobs. I got a response from the human resources director saying "since most of the work will be done by automation, we anticipate only needing 45 to 50 employees." I asked him about the 100s of jobs, and was told "we THOUGHT we'd be able to provide that many, but things changed over the course of time". I said, yeah you guys "thought" alright....you thought what would it take to get the county to approve your requests....wouldn't you say you misled the county board? And the response I got to that was, "I'd love to answer that for you, but my other line is ringing. I'll be in contact with you if we're interested in hiring you".
And to extend this a bit further, if these high brass people in these corporations can out-scheme governments like this, you imagine the stuff they pull to get one of these high brass jobs in the first place? The hook, line and sinker bait they tell the board of directors, the cut-throat things that get said to become a corporate big shot. Drives me crazy when these guys are making millions and millions of $ and they'll talk about how they earned it and has paid their dues and worked hard to become the CEO. No, it's because they did the best job of scheming their way into those high brass positions.
