Look at this photo. It’s VA Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D). A descendant of slaves. Sitting in protest as Republican Sen. Richard H. Stuart marked Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s birthday w/ praise for “a great Virginian & a great American.” Fairfax may soon be Governor. Karma.

I've read that he's a bonafide progressive, a former federal prosecutor. . .and he's 39.

So, I'm not worried. The Commonwealth of Virginia is in good hands with him.

Going back and re-reading the VA Code, it is clear that the legislature fills a vacancy in the office of Attorney General. But there doesn't appear to be a parallel provision for the Lt. Gov. Back in 1971, the Lt. Gov. died in office -- in that instance, it appears that an election was held to fill the vacancy. But i'm not sure if the law has changed since then or not.
