Okay: ya really didn't gotta be no fuggin rocket surgeon to know better than that
I'm not too much older than Northam -- and I'm not too proud to admit I've sometimes been an azzwipe many times along the way. We all just do our best and hope to live long enough to do better next time
But right now I want remember one day many years ago. This was decades before Northam's yearbook page included those jolly blackface and KKK photos
I hadn't turned ten yet. The ink was hardly barely dry on the Civil Rights Act. It was a nice sunny day, and I was standing in the street, arguing with another school kid about integration. I said I thought integration was a great idea. And that was the first time anybody ever called me a communist
Oh, yeah, I lived in a really racist neighborhood. I heard ugly crap regularly, when the creeps assumed it was safe to spew. But even there back then, I never ever saw anybody in person with blackface or dressed in KKK regalia. Sure, those folk were still around, but they had decided they didn't like the public spotlight so much by then. People knew better
