Making excuses/lying shows no remorse. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt, that he has changed and was trying to make amends with his stance on the Confederate monuments. No more. He's toast.

I had been a little more on the fence about resign/don't resign, I worried we were too quick to fall for another right wing set up. I wanted to believe he had changed, but there were too many weasel words and the Michael Jackson really made up my mind.

I was originally reluctant to feel he should end his career from a legal stupid college day event (much unlike Kavanaugh's rape and or sexual assault) especially since his current policies and adult life works are pro Civil rights. In addition, the timing of the outing of the picture seemed like a political hit job. But, as more and more comes out, it seems obvious he just doesn't get it and that he has lost the confidence of his colleagues and the people of Virginia.

I just hope that the VA GOP St. Legislature doesn't have something on the now Lt. Gov. Fairfax that will force him out too after they have installed a RWNJ Lt. Gov. of their own.

...to change my mind. Own your past. That’s respectable. Don’t try to walk back an apology after you’ve admitted it was you. That’s how you show change.

At this point he doesn’t have a consistent story so it’s time to go.

1981 VA Military Yearbook nickname "Coonman"

He dismissed it today as something only two people called him and he never explained why. I saw where they may have been brought up in 2016 but cannot find the link now ... his class is only 3% black in a state where 19.4% are black. Some claim "Coonman" would refer to his status with the KKK.

VA Military Institute when he went has some racist history. For example:
https://www.chronicle.com/article/For-UVa-Racist-Rally-Dredges/240946

The statue at the center of the controversy that drew white supremacists to Charlottesville, Va., this past weekend has connections to UVa.
...
The unveiling was preceded by an impressive display of white Southern pride by students from another Virginia college. "One hundred cadets from the Virginia Military Institute paraded through the center of Charlottesville," according to a 1997 text prepared for the U.S. Interior Department, "gaily decorated with Confederate colors."

1984 In Northam's press conference today, around that time, he admits wearing a black face costume - something to do with imitating Michael Jackson

1984 His medical school year book has the now famous photo of a black face plus a person dressed in a KKK outfit. He denies knowing about it until yesterday because he did not buy his yearbook. Like most, I do not believe his incredible claim. One of his friends would have pointed it out. Or when they vetted him for Gov.

2013 Northam refuses to shake hands with black opponent EW Jackson

It has been discovered that Ralph Northam, Gov. of VA has pictures in black face and a KKK outfit. During a campaign for Lt. Gov of VA, he refused to shake my hand after a TV debate. If he had been a conservative and I a black liberal, it would have been national news and he would have been driven from the race. Because he is a leftist like most in the media, it did not even get a mention in the MSM. Stand by for my live comments.

2017 Campaign finance reports show northam campaign coordinated on racist truck ad

2017 Northam says he'd ban sanctuary cities if one ever appears in Virginia

Then he removes his black Lt Gov from some of his campaign flyers
https://www.democracyforamerica.com/site/page/dfa-announces-end-of-direct-aid-for-northam-in-va-gubernatorial-race-after
"Those concerns proved justified when, a few weeks ago, the VA Democratic Coordinated campaign (dominated by Northam operatives) bought literature for canvassers that purposely left off Fairfax, who, if elected, would be just the second Black man to ever serve statewide office in the Commonwealth. Following that racist action, we decided to remove Northam's name from the tens of thousands of volunteer Get-Out-the-Vote calls our members are making in Virginia, but, for the sake of Democratic comity, we refrained from publicly discussing that decision.

"However, after seeing Northam play directly into the hands of Republicans' racist anti-immigrant rhetoric on sanctuary cities, we refuse to be silent any longer and even remotely complicit in the disastrous, racist, and voter-turnout-depressing campaign Ralph Northam appears intent on running.

This is not a one off event. There's an ugly pattern here. I'll bet there's a lot more to come.

When he seemed to be honestly apologizing for having terrible judgement a long time ago over something that had come up literally hours before, I was annoyed at a rush to judgement, and believed that he wasn't that guy anymore.

People can change.

Apparently, not him though, since he has now gone with "Well, it wasn't me after all"....you don't admit to something and then say "oopsie, I was in a DIFFERENT blackface picture, so it's all good".

Ralph was leaning hard for support on his wife who appeared uptight, grim and put out with him throughout. Telling.

'Some blackface' at the 1984 MJ contest in San Antonio, and inconsistent stories about the photos & nicknames were BS.

It will take a lot to regroup after this racist, toxic incident and Northam's dishonesty and selfishness. Foremost, all of it is extremely unfair to Virginians, black folks, supporters and Democrats. Adios. Welcome new Gov. Fairfax.

To Add, what happened to the vetting process in both of Northam's campaigns, for Gov. and earlier Lt. Gov.? Perhaps the upstanding 'good doctor' image is part of it, which burns me as a person from a medical family of people with solid character.
