(32,897 posts)... President Jimmy Carter has spent much of his retirement volunteering for Habitats for Humanity. It's a worthy organization of volunteers who go to underserved poverty-stricken areas (mostly outside the US) and build homes for the poorest of the poor. The program is sponsored by private donations from generous Americans, as far as I know there are no government funds involved. The volunteers who undertake this work are required to raise their own travel funds, besides donating their time and services.

And decades later we still have those damn Russians messing with us.

My support for clean, renewal energy sources began in 1979 when he installed solar panels on the roof of the White House. Every time I drive past the Arizona Public Service Solar Farm, or their nuclear plant, I am reminded of him.
