There are two types of Trump 'executive time,' one for each side of the political debate
We will begin at the end. Using data leaked to Axios detailing President Trumps minute-by-minute schedule since the midterm elections and overlaying onto that the presidents prodigious Twitter regimen, we get a sense of how Trumps day is driven.
We can add a few other layers of data, too: separating out Trumps hour-long lunches on most days for which theres a schedule and tweets that appear to be driven by his watching programming on Fox News and Fox Business Network, courtesy of Matthew Gertz at Media Matters.
(We excluded short gaps in the schedule, including them in the preceding scheduled block of time.)
What immediately jumps out are the dark gray bars representing Trumps executive time, unstructured time in which the president can call friends and advisers, hold impromptu meetings or watch news programming. This was Axioss focus in its report, noting that about 60 percent of the time from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the scheduled days is executive time.
