@JoyAnnReid
Trump is the guy who goes into a Blackjack game betting his mortgage money against the House, having only played cards with people who let him win and not actually knowing the rules of Blackjack. (And also the guy whose three casinos touted in The Art of the Deal went bankrupt.)

If Trump declares a national emergency to build the wall, Nancy Pelosi can initiate a process that may *force* a Senate vote on it.
This is the real reason GOP Senators are panicking.
I talked to legal expert @LizaGoitein, who laid out how this works:

(2,653 posts)the cowardly republican senators will vote for trump's wall.
I have no faith whatsoever that ANY republican will do the right thing. They haven't for decades, why would they do it now? They may all badmouth trump, but they will always back him 100%. Cowards!!!

(13,924 posts)Im curious how that would work.
Under the National Emergencies Act, or NEA, both chambers of Congress can pass a resolution terminating any presidentially declared national emergency.
What Pelosi can do
Elizabeth Goitein, who has researched this topic extensively for the Brennan Center for Justice, tells me that if Pelosi exercises this option, it will ultimately require the Senate to vote on it in some form as well. The NEA stipulates that if one chamber (Pelosis House) passes such a resolution, which it easily could do, the other (McConnells Senate) must act on it within a very short time period forcing GOP senators to choose whether to support it.
It also says the senate could vote NOT to act on it, which would still put each senator on record. And the R senators definitely don't want to be put in that position.

(11,885 posts)For distraction away from them, and watch him promote putin tonight and probably announce more meetings with the terrorist putin soon. That's where he's getting everything from now that he's doing to this country, putin, yet wants others to believe he's been hard on him, and that's laughable, and absurdly untrue. He'll bait and switch again tonight with claims things that'll sound great only to really switch to something totally different for putin. Republicans are screwed as long as he's in office, and 2020 will be a nightmare for them.
