Donald Trumps inauguration committee has been accused of money laundering and making false statements in a subpoena from prosecutors with the Southern District of New York (SDNY). And it appears that both the president and the vice president could soon be facing criminal charges as a result.
CNNs Shimon Prokupecz reported on Twitter that on the cover of the subpoena, prosecutors alleged that the committee partook in conspiracy against the US, false statements, mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, inaugural committee disclosure violations, and laws prohibiting contributions by foreign nations and contributions in the name of another person.

These are the charges that the SDNY is planning against Donald Trump and his family. But others in Trumps inner circle including Mike Pence are likely to be charged also. - PoliticusUSA

(22,681 posts)Pence is the new kind of lying, holier than thou new kind of republican. And just wait for Mueller to bring down the obstruction charges for Pence's role in knowing, planning, or otherwise being in on the firing of James Comey to stop the Russia investigation.
The FBI is going to need more arresting agents when this mass bust goes down. It'll be like D-day.

(35,454 posts)His book tour/giving Trump a pass with so-called 'reasonable' explanations, has been a disgrace. I wonder if as a former prosecutor he should've reported the crime if he did actually know Trump wanted/ intended to pocket the inaugural money.

(10,054 posts)According to 1990 campaign finance records, Pence used $12,867 from his campaign account for personal expenses. That's the equivalent of about $23,700 in 2016.
The payouts included seven $992 mortgage payments and seven of his wife's $222 car payments. More cash went to buy household groceries, pay off Pence's credit cards and even cover the costs of participating in golf tournaments.

(32,917 posts)...then you probably know that those hearings were on TV every weekday for more than a year, and America tuned in. It had very high ratings including most of us baby boomers, we were still in school or in our early 20's. I don't think I missed a day of Watergate.

(10,167 posts)When Trump supporters see televised hearings day after day detailing the crimes committed by Trump the crime boss and his family, along with some members of his campaign and administration, will they finally stop worshipping their idol? Will Senate Republicans continue stonewalling and refuse to do anything about Trump? Interesting days ahead! Im just ready for hearings to start.

(51,660 posts)Until the tapes his cult still loved him throughout the hearings. When the tapes came out everything changed. Jill Winebanks said the tapes were crucial in changing the minds of the US public and they pressured the GOP Senate to impeach him finally.

(5,815 posts)at the time. The hearing pre-empted soap operas, as I recall. Even though I was a soap fan, the hearings were MUST SEE TV. And I was not even politically aware back then, but had the good sense to recognize that it was huge news. So I watched and will watch again if it comes to that with tRump. I am retired now so I have plenty of time to watch every glorious moment of tRumps decent into hell.

(42,835 posts)PoliticsUSA assumes, without any actual evidence, that the document subpoena directed to the Inaugural Committee foreshadows indictments of Trump and his family as well as of Pence. But that's a leap. Nothing in the subpoena indicates any direct involvement by Pence in the inaugural committee activities under investigation. Pence wasn't on the committee and no request for documents that might be in his possession was made.
The fact that PoliticsUSA thinks this moves Nancy Pelosi closer to becoming President is a pretty good indication of how they're thinking is influenced more by what they want than by what is likely. There is zero chance that Pelosi becomes President no matter what happens relating to Pence.

(4,079 posts)"There is zero chance that Pelosi becomes President no matter what happens relating to Pence."
I agree completely that this whole story is a lot of wishful thinking by PoliticsUSA, but the fact is that IF both Trump and Pence were to be removed from office, Nancy Pelosi would be next in line for the presidency. Now, there may be zero chance that Pence would ever be removed from office, but that doesn't negate the fact that IF he were, and assuming Trump was long gone (be still my heart), Nancy Pelosi would become President.

(42,835 posts)Or to put it another way, it is as likely as pugs flying.
They will not and cant be forced to resign simultaneously. With the Republicans controlling the senate any deal by which leave office will have to involve the naming of a republican as the replacement for pence
I'm not quibbling with the likelihood of it happening being virtually zero; only with your characterization of the result if it were to happen.

(109,025 posts)the article is from PoliticsUSA, and is so hyperbolic it can't be taken seriously.
For instance, it -- and another article it links to -- says over and over that Trump "stole" the $107 million in inaugural funds. We know that isn't true. That was the total amount raised for the inauguration, and SOME of those millions clearly had to be spend on the skimpy parties he DID have. We just don't know how much.
We should be careful about believing sites that are over-promising, unless we want to be disappointed in the end.

(8,960 posts)1) Once Pence know he'll be convicted, he will resign from the office of VP.
2) TRE45ON will then nominate a squeaky clean (R)
3) TRE45ON will then resign from the Presidency and the squeaky clean (R) will become IQ46.
There is no way the (R)'s are going to let Speaker Nancy take over the Presidency.
They will do everything they can to keep her out.
