Candidates.. can we stop kneecapping all the women who have already jumped into the race.. Is it just me, but Harris for getting some kind of pass, Warren for accepting a family history she was raised with and a preemptive attack on Klobuchar for being too tough, Gillibrand etc... Not seen the same level of attacks on Booker or O' Rourke Buttigleg, Delaney, Brown, Castro or even my choice Biden.. pretty tame stuff thrown at them
If I have left anyone out, or soon to jump in.. apologies.. its hard to keep up with all the good people we have getting ready to take on the Trumpian Party..

(5,079 posts)who didn't even run for anything (though FDR's mentor wanted her to be the first woman president) and then Hillary Clinton...now AOC, the presidential candidates, and other women who are stepping into public life...just business as usual. For myself, I'm not believing any of it--especially if cis straight white men are saying it, no matter what their party--even if these women shoot someone on Fifth Avenue. After all, there's always 2 sides, right?

Actually, it was the press more than the Republicans. It was brutal.

(28,889 posts)I dont believe it is real Dems and especially DUers knee capping other Dems.
I think our fault is falling for the kneecapping.

(22,881 posts)He has given so much of his life to public service.. His knowledge base and all his connections with other governments would be a huge help in saving what is left of our government..I would love if he could do for the Executive branch what Pelosi is doing for the house... and mentor the next set of leaders.. Our current administration has been full bore tearing our Democracy and Allies down..

(10,853 posts)I was astonished with the Klobucher stories because all these 'whacks' are following a pattern. A female candidate barely gets out the gate and she's kneecapped for one reason or the other.
Oh Noes! She (whoever the candidate) is less than perfect! Toss her on the junk heap.
The same was evident in the Beto O'Rourke attacks--his popularity, his strength to attract supporters. The piranhas were released taking chunks out of his hide. Those attacks only subsided when he withdrew from all the chatter of a potential run.
We've seen this movie before. All of our candidates, particularly the strongest, most popular candidates have been targeted because the Republicans (and other factions) are desperate to take the shine off, reduce them all with a 'but . . .but her emails' legacy.
It's going to be a long, long election cycle.

(116,003 posts)It can be debunked or at least become old and uninteresting news by the time the primaries heat up if it's handled correctly now. I'm sure that as all the others, male or female, become official candidates, whatever skeletons they have or are claimed to have in their closets will be brought out too. That's politics. I'd rather have them vetted and proctoscoped now than later. I really don't think Warren's ancestry claims or Klobuchar's personnel management problems will be deciding factors once all 30 candidates or however many there will be are out campaigning. We probably won't even be able to keep track of which "scandal" belongs to whom.
Wouldn't it have been better if somebody had discovered Northam's yearbook photo before he ran for governor?

(11,495 posts)There seems to be a group here on DU who just plain don't want "any" women to run. I keep seeing low count posters who "claim" to be Democrats, posting all kinds of hit pieces on the women who have announced they would run. Could be a bunch of the JPR crowed coming back, could be right wing trolls, or Russian trolls, things is they are stirring things up trying to divide people. We have to remember not to feed the trolls.
We have a great bunch of people to chose from, and I really think that scares republicans since they had such a crappy field to pick from the last time, and now they are figuring out that trump is a total disaster that they will have to deal with that in 2020.

(5,591 posts)positions get the brunt of public criticism.
Whether out of insecurity or fear, misogyny or ignorance, conscious or deeply entrenched, gender targeting exists and is practiced constantly. All the time. It hasnt changed, we are just finally talking more about the problem. I am sure it will get worse.
It isnt just a political problem. Its massive. Overwhelming, often. But it is being recognized more publicly.
This election, I imagine, will be the ugliest, meanest ever. And then some.
We have to be emotionally prepared.
There is a plus, though. Those who remain standing will be damned fierce, strong candidates-which we must have to win back the sanity and humanity from the current nightmare.

But...I'm sure a lot of this "trouble" is being brewed by our site's users from St. Petersburg.
