(5,505 posts)One is aligned with the economic and human rights approach taken in western Europe. The other seems to be more about heavy handed leadership and social intolerance seen in eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Maybe this has always been the case and social platforms have just given people a bigger forum to pontificate.
It's sad really. All the time spent trying to legalize discrimination against gays, justify continued institutional discrimination against African Americans, suppress women's rights, demonize immigrants and other arguments like that is just a distraction to make sure poor, white America stays satisfied while still being poor.
Because none of these issues will help them or their children get better paying jobs. And they seem fine with that. It's like they sit down and say, "We can't afford to get the car fixed. But who cares because now the gays can't get married. Or Betty down the block is going to have to have that baby--serves her right."

(111,111 posts)An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. A fight is going on inside me, he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
He continued, The other is good he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, Which wolf will win?
The old Cherokee simply replied, The one you feed.
