Fairfax calls on FBI to investigate sexual assault allegations against him

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/429298-fairfax-calls-on-fbi-to-investigate-sexual-assault-allegations-against

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) is asking for an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against him amid calls from his own party to resign.

Late Saturday, Fairfax released a statement calling for “all appropriate and impartial investigatory authorities, including the FBI, to investigate fully and thoroughly the allegations against me,” according to multiple report

I think this is fair

Investigate and then decide, lying to the FBI is against the law IINM

The shame here is BK is a supreme court judge and AVOIDED law enforcement involvement were as Fairfax is a Lt. Gov and is welcoming law enforcement involvement.

1. According to what I heard on MSNBC, this is not under the jurisdiction of the FBI.

Easy to ask for an investigation when you know it won’t happen.

The "not in jurisdiction of FBI" is Craig Melvin's uninformed red herring,

Has the “F” in “FBI” changed meaning?

It should be the BCI.

Unfortunately accusations of sexual harassment or assault against elected officials, appointees and nominees are not going to stop. If there is a criminal complaint we know who will investigate.

I asked a question in another thread and learned that Fairfax has been suspended by the law firm he works for and they will also investigate. I don’t know that the accusers would accept that as unbiased. Even if they did, neither that nor having the FBI investigate all accusations against state officials seems to be a general way to do these investigations.

That is a flaw in our system that should be addressed. Is there a state or even foreign government that we could use as a model for legislation on how such investigations should take place ?

The FBI is not some agency that is on a leash that you yank whenever you want it to do something. The FBI only investigates crimes within its jurisdiction. The law which governs the FBI doesn't allow it to investigate state and local crimes. One of the crimes is beyond the statute of limitations. The other is in the jurisdiction of the Boston Police Department. Whether they would investigate something that is almost 15 years old is unknown.

Lt.Gov is an elected office. If you get elected, you get elected. Also if anyone did a check it would be the state police not the FBI.
