Believe me, it aint easy getting those shots when they scream past. Every year I go up un my roof deck and try to get shots when the Blue Angels scream right overhead during the Chicago Air and Water show. I usually end up with a cloud or some birds or maybe a thumb. But I dont know what the fuck Im doing.

(24,382 posts)It's a known fact that up close, an F-18 looks just like a thumb!
Back in October the NAS Jax Air Show and the Blues were here. When the Air Station has a Left Hand downwind leg, which is most of the time, the turn to the base leg is pretty much right over my house, so I got quite a few glimpses of them as they were practicing and during their shows. I say glimpses because there's lots of trees around, so lines of sight are restricted.
They are fun to watch, and man, what a cool gig to have, eh?
And BTW, your new sig pics are hilarious!

(36,501 posts)I was working at Ghirardelli Square, ground zero for San Francisco's Fleet Week air show by the Blue Angles. I was on scaffolding up in a skylight when they started their practice run with a LOW level flyby, and Boy howdy, it nearly scared me to death. Once I figured out what was going on, I settled down and enjoyed the maneuvers. The best was the Fleur-de-Lis that was directly overhead. Directly overhead!
Had you been up there with me, you couldn't help but capture the entire thing it in your viewfinder.

(42,774 posts)I can set my cam to take three or five shots in succession.
That's good for taking shots where there is a lot of movement.

(2,517 posts)The high performance nature of those jets is impressive.
What would the Wright Brothers think if they could've been standing out there with those photographers?

(26,355 posts)Yes, that's what people are calling that canyon in Death Valley. Apparently, the fighter jocks making that run call it the Jedi Transition.
"Just like Beggar's Canyon back home!"

Not a big fan of killing, sorry.

(24,382 posts)Just so you know, from time to time I put up a thread with the words "Aviation enthusiasts..." starting the title.
It is good possibility that the post could involve military aircraft, but I have indulged other aspects of aviation and space flight also.
So next time you might want to just not bother opening the thread, OK?

(6,257 posts)I attended a football game at the Naval Academy. As is tradition, there is a flyover during the National Anthem. I was sitting in the upper rows of the upper deck, and could look straight across into the pilot's eyes.
I was too overwhelmed to even raise my camera. Amazing!
