1). Manafort broke plea deal
2). Manafort is "barely recognizable," looks terrible, reportedly walking with a cane

OKAY...BUT...is it POSSIBLE that if he hadn't done the things he's being tried for now, INCLUDING lying and breaking the plea deal, he might have AVOIDED ALL OF THIS?
I don't wish ANYONE harm, or grief, or suffering, but what part of what Manafort is going through right now is NOT self-inflicted and could NOT HAVE POSSIBLY BEEN AVOIDED?
WHAT AM I MISSING??? Why should this not seem like justice for crimes committed?
Asking here because I can't ask Brian Williams personally.

(18,837 posts)I usually watch Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell, and by the time they're both finished. I'm thinking about sleep. I usually fall asleep before the end. This little moment of concern came at the beginning of the show.

(18,837 posts)I have seen Don on occasion and assume he never has guests like Santorum, Hewitt, Kingston, etc. That's the primary reason I avoid CNN.

(82,849 posts)I hear you. Paul Manafort looks terrible, and being in prison is terrible. But Manafort has conducted his career and his life in such a way that this is the normal and natural consequence for his life of crime. He's looted millions of dollars from people, caused the deaths of thousands directly and indirectly, and left a trail of blood and corruption wherever he's gone. To deny him the prison time he has courted and earned would be a terrible injustice to Manafort's efforts.
Now, consider the men and women rotting away in jails and prisons all across the nation, Mr. Williams. Some of them earned their cell every bit as much as Paul Manafort. But others are languishing, their lives wasting away, because of a corrupt system the rewards convictions and prison time without too much concern for actual guilt or innocence. Our Supreme Court has even gone so far as to opine that the guilt or innocence for a criminal defendant is less important than a procedurally correct trial. That is, as long as the i's were dotted more or less correctly and the t's crossed within an acceptable margin of error, a wrongful conviction must stand.
Your pathetic pleading on Manafort's behalf would have a lot more credibility if it was consistent. You're only concerned for Manafort because he was in your Club.

Almost verbatim.

(42,641 posts)So all of these things are even more terrible because they happened to a rich white man who also happens to be a career criminal.

(5,815 posts)(At least this is what I heard one reporter say.). So of course he is unrecognizable. He looks like the 70 year old man that he is. Is that part of a ploy to look old and frail so someone will have mercy upon the old guy?? Funny that he was full of pep and looked fine last year. Probably planning to pull the old, pitiful geriatric guy routine to see if he can get a sympathy break. Dont fall for it. He is a con man. Who worked for another con man. Show him no mercy.

(13,776 posts)I like his dry humor. And his little sly digs at the man occupying the position of POTUS.
To me it seemed more like schadenfreude than a call for pity.
