It's interesting to me how playing the national anthem became so identified with militarism, that protesting racism is equated with disrespecting "the troops." The NFL tries to pretend its some anodyne moment of national solidarity, but the utter discombobulation of some folks (including team owners) gives away the game that it's really all about projecting American military power.
