(21,288 posts)Found a book at a flea market called the lawless decade about the 1930's and it showed pictures of creeping nazism in this country.
I would post it but getting pictures on DU is such are arduous task.

LiberalLovinLug
(14,180 posts)But I think it would not be lack of awareness, it would be some kind of accreditation for their views as being "long held American values". I'm sure their viewers would love those clips. "See?...see?...We're not crazy, we are the true Americans and we are just fulfilling what they back then couldn't finish."

(992 posts)from wikipedia:
"Bellamy was a Christian socialist who "championed 'the rights of working people and the equal distribution of economic resources, which he believed was inherent in the teachings of Jesus.'" In 1891, Bellamy was "forced from his Boston pulpit for preaching against the evils of capitalism" and eventually stopped attending church altogether after moving to Florida, reportedly because of the racism he witnessed there. Francis's career as a preacher ended because of his tendency to describe Jesus as a socialist. In the 21st century, Bellamy is considered an early American democratic socialist."

(28,367 posts)He was an officer of the Friend's of New Germany (FONG). He wanted to be the American Furher. He desperately wanted to be acknowledged by and the approval of Hitler. That would never happen.
We could learn a lot from history.

(28,348 posts)The anguish on that man's face as he is being beaten and carried away.
There is an orchestra at the front. I just can't wrap my head around a bunch of musicians gathering to play such beautiful instruments in a celebration of hate.
All of those young people. How miserable were their lives made by carrying such a twisted ideology?

(8,906 posts)The original tRump campaign rally. The "Great" the GOP wants to make America Again. Wonder what Mike Pence's Christian thoughts are on this and where is his anti Semitic outrage? White people have sucked since the first tribe was slaughtered while thumping the "Good" book. Oh, I am white......this proves evolution is fake. White Amurrkans have not evolved at all, maybe devolved.

(8,938 posts)The swastikas have been replaced with redhats, the hatred of jews replaced with hatred of brown immigrants, the theme of nationalism and "taking back the country" is all there at today's Trump rallies.
The look of fascist movements hasn't changed much at all in 80 years.

(430 posts)Here's a site done a while ago that covers the Nazi rise in the 30s.
The parts on speeches, propaganda and Nazi posters are interesting especially when comparing that rhetoric with today's.
It's very detailed and long with a tremendous amount of material but worth the time in education.

(41,217 posts)A Night at The Garden - Field of Vision
> In 1939, 20,000 Americans rallied in New York's Madison Square Garden to celebrate the rise of Nazism -- an event largely forgotten from U.S. history. A NIGHT AT THE GARDEN, made entirely from archival footage filmed that night, transports audiences to this chilling gathering and shines a light on the power of demagoguery and anti-Semitism in ...
