Jonathan Reiner, the longtime cardiologist of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was on CNNs Out Front With Erin Burnett Friday evening and the doctor called for an independent group to investigate Trumps health.
I think the time is now to create an independent [group] to assess the fitness of the president and vice-president, he said.
Imagine if the person who examined your pilot worked for your pilot
.we depend on people in key positions having independent medical exams, Reiner continued.
He is not moving in the right direction, he said regarding Trumps general health in the wake of a newly released annual Presidential checkup. The presidents weight has gone up. his cholesterol hasnt gone down. we know he has coronary disease. he is on a train going to a destination that he does not want to arrive at. if you dont treat these risk factors like high cholesterol and you dont reduce elevated weight and you dont do exercise, you are really increasing your risk of having a heart attack. I calculated the presidents risk of having a serious cardiovascular event its 17%
When host of Outfront Erin Burnett asked if that was high, the doctor answered in the affirmative.
Thats super high, he noted, adding: To turn that around, the president needs to get moving, lose some weight, really drop the carbs in his diet and get his cholesterol way down. It would be good to see him moving in a different direction than he seems to have gone over the last year.

(59,809 posts)I'm tall and big in every way; muscular AND fat if that makes any sense. And I know I need to get this weight off before i get much older.

How old are you and when was your last physical?
In the last week of July last year, I climbed my first Alpine pass on my bike - the Col des Montets just near the border of France and Switzerland:

In the first week of August, I had an LAD heart attack, my heart stopped, CPR failed, and I was defibrillated prior to surgery:

I wasnt ready to have a heart attack. I had NO IDEA I was at risk for one. It was a huge inconvenience. It was much more inconvenient than the things Ive done since then to significantly reduce the chances of it happening again.
Anything you can do (or not do) is something. I had my life changed in a moment, and would much have preferred to take it one thing at a time. Pick one thing and do that thing. Once you have that one nailed, pick another one.
You dont want to do what I did. Before I blinked out, I knew I was moments away from dying and there wasnt jack shit I could do about it.
You have a huge advantage if you can get out ahead of it.

But now I'm healthier than I was for years before the attack
Something about surviving a heart attack will make you get up off your ass and do the right things to stay alive.

(10,131 posts)For him to be alive 41 years later after all the stressful work (& crimes) he's done, is remarkable.
His doctor must really know something about treating the condition.
Can't say in Cheney's case that i'm delighted with his results as I think the country would have been better off without Cheney.

(82,383 posts)His arrogance knows no bounds. He likely really believes it would never happen to HIM. He is the luckiest evil jerk in history, too. Born rich, everything handed to him. By a stroke of luck, or several, the Electoral College goes to him.
