for ending this miserable day on a wonderfully cheery note.
He showed the Kiss Cam footage of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, at last night's Atlanta Hawks game.
Then Brian mentioned that the Carters have been married for 72 years and seven months - in five months, they will celebrate their 73rd anniversary. And if they last for three months beyond that, they will hold the record for the longest Presidential marriage, passing George H. W. and Barbara Bush.
And Jimmy Carter already holds the record for the longest post-Presidential life -- more than 38 years.
Sometimes the good don't die young! Sometimes they survive and thrive and set good examples for all of the rest of us!

(23,199 posts)Allman Brothers are my favorite band EVER! I've been going to see them since I was 17 and friends with one of their roommates. I moped for months after Dwaynes' and Barry's deaths. I love so many of their songs, think Whipping Post is my all time favorite song, it just moves me so much, the passion it burns! Sweet Melissa is another all time fave, along with In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Love their blues covers too - Young Girl Blues blows my socks off. Still think they made the best music, no one can surpass them in my book. Stevie Ray Vaughn would be 2nd I guess.

(23,199 posts)I also really like Rambling Man because it was the first of their songs I heard on the radio. I had been a fan for years previously, was so excited to actually finally hear my favorite band as I was riding down the road.

(47,600 posts)We usually end the day with Brian Williams. No nonsense, no self promotion but this evening, running all the clips of the bizarre meandering of Trump - could not take it. Turned it off at half point, more or less.
David Muir, on the ABC news, also ran the Carters clip.

(76 posts)Some people, like the Carters, set great examples for us. Others, like Brian Williams, do not.

(19,205 posts)but the article was by Williams and about the Carters. You dislike the messenger, I get that, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

(27,863 posts)It's the way mankind imprinted experiences for survival before we had written history. It's a defense mechanism built into our DNA. Heck, Reagan thought he'd liberated the concentration camps. I despised him, but it's a phenomenon that is pretty normal.
I enjoy Brian Williams' show, too. It's by far my favorite nod the MSNBC nightly lineup.

(19,205 posts)That's just another platitude created by people to explain away the death of a young person. We humans have created dozens of them to assuage our unnatural fear of death.
That being said, congratulations to the most understood and underestimated president our country has ever had. The Carters are a constant inspiration and are the role models for living a caring, loving and productive marriage and life in general. They broke the mold when they made Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. I wish them much love and continued years of showing us how to behave as human beings. I also hope they obliterate the record held by those disgusting Bush cretins.

(6,645 posts)only the good die young means that we miss the good when they go (at any age) and the bad we have around long after we wish we could get rid of them. That is what it means.

(62,483 posts)that is so incredible. IIRC he was used as kind of a test case. The kind of guy who would sacrifice himself for the better of others.
Wow.

(14,180 posts)Giving back to the community. Helping those in need. Who has been married for 72 fricken years to the same woman.
But the evangelicals would overwhelmingly choose Trump over Carter. A cheater, twice divorced scoundrel, who said he doesn't need God's forgiveness, and who only thinks about enriching himself. Go figure.

(3,115 posts)After Chris (Hayes), Rachel and Lawrence, he maintains the same sardonic tone against this ridiculous Dump presidency but delivers it in the old-time newscaster style (like our beloved Dan Rather) that I find comforting.
And he doesn't fucking interview a parade of Pukes like they do on CNN! Rick "Frothy" Santorum, what do you think about it all? Barf.

(11,580 posts)... I believe he is definitely the best PERSON to ever occupy that office, at least in the modern era. As much as I love and respect BHO, JEC is a VERY tough act to follow, even almost 4 decades later.
