The president’s pick to replace Jeff Sessions at the helm of the Justice Department has known and admired the president’s bête noire, Robert Mueller, for 30 years — and somehow President Donald Trump seems fine with that.

The relationship, which Barr described in public Tuesday during his Senate confirmation hearing, is both a source of reassurance to Democrats worried about Barr’s attitude toward Mueller’s probe and a reminder of the small size of Washington’s legal and law enforcement worlds.

Why it isn’t more troubling to Trump, who, Barr said, is aware of the relationship, remains a mystery.

Why at this even more critical time for trump, would trump make a 'straight appointment' - which is the way this Barr appointment has been sold.

Barr's been anti abortion, anti Mueller probe, general severe conservative. He has supported trump, despite his obviously knowing trump's bad character.

I guess one could hope he may be partial to establishment/bush republicanism, and not be overly subservient to trump. Another new 'normal'?

I just hope they don't end the investigation prematurely. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

take a genuinely conservative approach, and not endanger his own reputation by pushing to end the Mueller investigation 'prematurely'.
Prematurely is a complicated word, as many close followers seem to think it will take years to unravel the trump 'legacies'.

[Your cautious optimism encourages me - some].
