Donald Trump's $25 Billion Problem With Germany's Carmakers

If Trump decides on permanent tariffs of 25 percent, German car exports to the U.S. could fall by almost 50 percent in the long term, according to a study by the Munich-based Ifo economic research institute. Such tariffs would reduce Germany’s car exports by 7.7 percent, or the equivalent of 18.4 billion euros, Ifo Director Gabriel Felbermayr said.

Chancellor Angela Merkel gave an impassioned defense of the country’s car industry over the weekend, calling the Trump administration’s suggestion that European autos are a threat to U.S. security a “shock.” The European Union has vowed swift retaliation if Trump follows through on his threat and has prepared tariffs on a total of 20 billion euros in U.S. goods.

Is there any way Congress can put an end to this nonsense and just hit the reset button? ooky Feb 2019 #6
Which is ironic because a lot of people who voted Republican own Mercedes, BMW, and Audis. Initech Feb 2019 #7

HAS to be stopped SOON. He is destroying this country, both here and abroad. The gop thought they had their perfect president, but don't they see that he is also destroying their party? People are getting really agitated with him, and them. Surely the cash they got from Russia has already been spent, so why try to hide it? We all know about it. What else are they trying to hide?

He's doing this to intentionally hurt our allies for putin . The republican party is done and now they are the fascist party of hate where its ok to abuse children, promote violence against minorities and groups that stand for Democracy, and that's why trump hates our allies, and is doing this now. They stand for Democracy and he doesn't.

Does anyone besides me see the flaw in this plan? Mercedes has plants here, as well as Volkswagen and BMW. Not certain about VW, but do know that Mercedes and BMW both export their American made products around the world. What's to stop other countries from slapping a 25% Tariff on those products as well.

This idiot-in-chief has yet to realize that tariff's are not paid by the Manufacturing Countries, but by the Consumers. What an AZZHAT!
