That was extremely disturbing.

(10,252 posts)He will go, even if kicking and screaming. I cannot believe that the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the U.S Marshalls, and the Secret Service would have any trouble moving him out.
Plus we still have a lot of patriots in this country.

(31,261 posts)President. My guess is they would allow US marshals to arrest his ass. Yes, there may be one or two SS that may want to resort to gun play to keep him from being arrested, but the other SS and the Marshals would more than likely take them down. Also, I don't see the great majority of military officers backing his attempt, there may be a rightwinger or two among them that may try something immediately or down the road, but most will just salute the incoming President and go about doing their jobs.

(10,252 posts)have taken an oath to the constitution. I sincerely believe that they take that oath seriously to heart. It is a matter of personal honor for those men and women. Trump is a pretty scarey guy. He foments chaos wherever he goes.
That's why all of us must stay calm and focused on electing more Dems in 2020. Republicans will fear-monger us to the Nth degree. Let's not fall for it.

Keep our eyes on the prize, saving our democracy, from there we can work to improve it.

when trump loses they won't believe it. i don't know if an actual civil war will ensue but expect violence. there are more of us, but there are also a lot of them.

The transition itself will be peaceful. That's just how we do things in this country.
There won't be any tanks in the streets of DC, there won't be any gunfire at the White House or at the Capital....there just won't be.
Is it possible that some protests could occur that turn violent? Sure. But there is no way in hell any minority faction of assholes is going to keep the next duly elected president from taking the oath of office and sleeping in the White House that night.
I said this before, but if for some stupid reason Trump decides he isn't leaving on inauguration day, 2021 and refuses to head toward the door, the INSTANT the new president says "So help me god" the Secret Service will pick him up and carry him to the sidewalk outside the guard house on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Jackson Place, NW and drop him.
They won't fuck around. Not for a second.

(5,914 posts)But, ideally, he should have been impeached, convicted, and kicked to the street on his ass six months ago.
He, at the very least, violates the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution daily. Daily! And no one does fuck all about it.
He will remain in office as long as he wants. No one is currently stopping him, and no one will stop him two, or even six years, from now.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,382 posts)Nonsense.
He will remain in office until he is either impeached and convicted, resigns, loses the next election or at the end of his second term.
He might like to THINK he could stay longer, but it ain't gonna happen.
The Republicans support him for only a few primary reasons;
He will (and has) help them lower taxes on the rich.
He will (and has) appoint far right leaning judges all over the country
He will (and has) reduce or eliminate regulations that protect the environment
He will (and has) assure the religious right he will reduce the ability for a woman to access abortion services.
If he does those things for the likes of the Mitch McConnell's of the world, he literally could shoot someone on 5th avenue and they wouldn't care.
The conservatives are a dying breed in this country and they know it. They know damned well Trump is their last shot at fixing things their way for a couple generations, particularly the judiciary.
But it won't last forever.
And they do NOT have a majority of public opinion on their side.
So when it's time to go, Trump will leave, whether he likes it or not, walking or carried, he will be out of the White House.
I'll bet a months pay.
Dave Starsky
(5,914 posts)Seriously. He will never leave of his own accord. And there is no one aside from the Democrats in the House who will ever even begin to try to make him go.
That having been said, he WILL leave quickly when he doesn't want to be there anymore. That is, when it's no longer fun, lucrative, etc.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,382 posts)and for some reason refuses to concede and stays put in the White House after noon on January 20th, I'm telling ya, he will be physically picked up by the Secret Service and deposited on the street.
There just isn't any other way it's going to go down. He isn't king, he won't BE a king by then and in spite of how convinced you may be of his resolve, I guarantee you there are shitloads of people working in the government that love this country and it's institutions more than he does.
They will see to it he leaves. I pledge right now to give $100 to the charity of your choice if I am proven wrong.
And if I am proven wrong? This country is fucked and all hell will break loose. The good and decent people of this country, which are a majority, will have none of it, full stop.

Honestly, I live for the day I see him gone. And take your whole freakin' sideshow of a family with you, whether it's to jail or to Russia.

I wish this weren't so critical but we need someone honorable who will work with Congress to re,-build the legal and historical guardrails that the #TraitorInChief has torched

(1,039 posts)When he loses, he can throw all the tantrums he wants, but he'll go. He won't have a choice. He has corrupted a lot of things, but we are far from the point that our courts, our police, and our military will allow him to overstay. We're a better country than that.

2. The Secret Service officially no longer protects Trump. (just his post-presidential detail)
3. New President enters the White House.
4. Secret Service escorts Trump out to the waiting FBI agents.
This is literally what would happen if a President refused to leave the White House on inauguration day.

(13,575 posts)At the moment the newly elected president is sworn in, Trump will simply be a private citizen with ZERO POWER and ZERO CLAIM to anything except a decreased Secret Service protection for former president.
And so, were he to decline to leave, he likely would have to refuse to go to the inauguration -- refuse to leave the White House. How does that play out? U.S. Marshals enter the White House to escort him out? How would he resist that, without any power?
The transition team of the incoming administration would have to game this out with the military, with law enforcement?
