I was happy to do it for you: Matt Gaetz overheard making stunning admission to Trump about Cohen threatEdward-Isaac Dovere, a staff reporter for The Atlantic, tweeted Thursday that he overheard a phone conversation between Gaetz and Trump, whom he said called the Florida Republican from Hanoi to discuss the Cohen testimony and apparent threat.
I was happy to do it for you, Gaetz said, according to Dovere. You just keep killing it.
Gaetz later refused to discuss the call, but Walter Shaub, the former director of the United States Office of Government Ethics, said the lawmakers comments should be investigated by both the Florida Bar and the Office of Congressional Ethics.

(52,503 posts)ok, one possible interpretation is that donnie had explicitly asked gaetz what he did, threaten cohen, i.e., conspiring to commit an illegal act.
but it's also entirely possible that donnie merely asked people to defend him and attack cohen (meaning politically and rhetorically), not to do anything illegal, and gaetz took it on himself to cross that line.
and it's also entirely possible that there was no explicit discussion at all, other than general reinforcement of the social/hierarchical dynamic within the republican party, namely that the republican toadies' job is to protect the president at all costs, and gaetz just was eager to please the top dog in their twisted world.
in and of itself, it doesn't add much to a case against donnie, though it does suggest further investigation is warranted. more interesting would be evidence of a call shortly *before* the gaetz made the threat.

Trump would know of course having worked closely with Cohen for years and probably keeps track of associates weaknesses in case he needs them for future protection.
