Mitch McConnell threatens to block everything if Trump loses in 2020
Mitch McConnell is already threatening to bring the country to a screeching halt if voters get rid of Trump.
https://shareblue.com/mitch-mcconnell-threat-obstruction-trump-2020-grim-reaper/
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is threatening to kill popular legislation and policies if voters elect a Democratic president in the 2020 election.
"If I'm still the majority leader in the Senate [in 2020], think of me as the Grim Reaper," McConnell told voters in Owensboro, Kentucky, on Monday. "None of that stuff is going to pass."
That stuff McConnell is so eager to kill? Popular progressive ideas like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, which would help to clean up the environment and provide even more access to affordable health care. Even if voters reject Trump and the Republican agenda in 2020, McConnell is determined to do what he wants rather than what the voters want.
"I guarantee you that if I'm the last man standing and I'm still the majority leader, it ain't happening," he said. "I can promise you."
<<snip>>
Now McConnell is openly stating he will resort to the same tactics again. If America elects a Democratic president, McConnell will do everything in his power to stop the will of the voters. Again.

(3,344 posts)I'm not saying Democrats have no backbone. Many are fighting for impeachment.
However, what did the Democratic party actually do when McConnell refused to have a vote on Garland? They did nothing substantial and allowed everyone to move on. The vast majority of Americans literally had no idea it was even happening.
We can't allow the public to move on from the Mueller report. Democrats would be violating their oath.

(1,898 posts)All we have to do is look at the way McConnell ran the caucus in 2009 and 2010 versus the way Schumer runs the opposition today. The difference is like night and day.
McConnell is far more effective in advancing the will of the Republican base in the Senate and his effectiveness grew by leaps and bounds once he returned as Majority Leader.

I dont know what has cowed the entire party and basically corrupted them to this point. Maybe you do. Im all ears. I suspect its a combination of whipping up the rabid trump Idiocracy audience, some blackmail, and heaps of money.
We arent playing the same game. Since most of our people are actually trying to solve problems and represent their constituents in this corrupt system they have a much harder job and its never going to look unified. We do the peoples work.

(1,459 posts)The point is that McConnell realized a long time ago that literally anything that stops short of blatant and overt illegality is fair game. He's not in this for the greater good of the US. He's in it for himself and in turn the party that he represents as a means to that power.
That's it... period...

(33 posts)Republicans win votes because they have the majority in the Senate, not because they fight dirtier.
It makes zero sense for liberals to repeatedly not bother to show up to support their own candidates and then whine that their leaders don't win votes with a minority. It's an infantile fantasy to want elected leaders to behave like professional wrestlers.

Sanders also put himself in rare disagreement with Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a 2020 campaign rival who shares most of his progressive views. She was the first major candidate to call for Trumps impeachment last week after the release of the Mueller report.

It was this one:
Do you agree with this post that Bernie needs to stand with Democrats on this issue?
But as to your tangent:
The only time Sanders is a Democrat is when he is campaigning for POTUS. The rest of the time, he represents Vermont and votes in the Senate as an Independent.
You may discuss this with his staff if you disagree. This is his listing on Senate.gov.

(32,640 posts)Democracy for America says. He is only a Democrat on the POTUS campaign trail - he is an Independent Senator.
The post, which has since been hidden talked about how he was a Democratic nominee for Vermont, so that made him a Democratic Senator, and I reminded them that he turned that nomiation down and ran as an Independent.
My response to this post:

(8,200 posts)The Democrats need to adopt the tactics of that have been employed by the Republicans. Mainly, attack them as being enemies of the democracy. Repeat the message over and over that they are guilty of attempting to rob us of our freedoms by attempting to create a dictatorship. Attack them as being the enemies of Jesus for their attack on their attacks on working class and poor. Paint them as the party of lawlessness who have given us the most unlawful administrations dating from Nixon, Reagan, Bush and now the supreme lawless Trump. These administrations has seen numerous people indicted for crimes and many sent to prison. Their candidates for any office should be attack daily and condemned as supporters of tyranny. Condemn them as evil un-American, anti-Christian, enemies.

(9,958 posts)The federal government spends around $26 billion per year on subsidies to prop up the fossil fuel industry. If those subsidies were taken away from fossil fuel companies, which are already highly profitable without them, and used to prop up alternative energy companies that agree to locate in less urban communities, jobs would be created in areas that are suffering now. For example, you can locate a solar panel or wind turbine manufacturer anywhere, but if you work in the oil or gas industry, you have to move to where those resources are located. Out-of-work miners could have good jobs without having to move. Those companies and jobs bring in more tax revenue for the community, which also helps to maintain healthcare options. Rural hospitals have been closing at an alarming rate because there is not enough money to keep them operating (at least at the profit levels their mostly corporate owners demand).
Democratic candidates really need to show how the Green New Deal could benefit rural communities with jobs and more prosperity and without increased taxes simply by stopping the needless subsidies of fossil fuel companies and using that money to subsidize alternative energy.

(32,626 posts)Mitch McConnell is why state elections are so very important. If people took all the passion they have invested in electing one person, and diverted it to all the individuals who represent them, we would not be in Trump-land. The last election cycle someone told me that the election of a President was the most important election, because they 'set the tone'. Trump has certainly done that, but he could not have done anything without the full support of the majority Republican party.

We had one of our best days ever in terms of fundraising, and that proves in no uncertain terms just how much appetite there is for Amy to run and to defeat Mitch McConnell.
National Democrats have been aggressively courting McGrath to run for the seat, but her team has not said whether she has made a decision. A call to her campaign headquarters was not immediately returned Tuesday.
McGraths House campaign attracted national attention with a viral web video introducing her candidacy. She won the Democratic primary by beating Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, whom national Democrats had recruited to run against her. She was only 3 points behind Andy Barr...
