Sessions had been a disappointment to Trump because he didn't act as Trump's personal lawyer. Barr had no such scruples (and no, I can't believe I'm attributing scruples to Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, either).

Even if it causes his reputation to be in shreds.

Either big prize for him or his daughter and son-in-law who works in the White House (the legal office I believe.)
